I received your email and noticed that you posted here as well. If you
do not have the .NET 2.0 framework installed, this might be the
problem.

Can't configure Web Service Identity
I recently renamed my server from tmpSrv to tfsSrv (names have been changed to protect the innocent). When I go to the Reporting Services Configuration Manager I have all greens except for the Web Service Identity field.
Trying to set that isn't working...the ASP.Net service account is NT Authority\Network Service, and the application pools defined are using that Network Service account as well. When I hit the "Apply" button I get a message saying:
Setting Web Service Identity
There was an error setting the identity for the web service. The previously set identity will still be used.
I'm trying to install Team Foundation Server on the box, and when I run the tfrsconfig /verify tool I see that the Web Service Identity is not set at all.
I've been battling this for a couple of days now with no effect. I even broke down and gave "Everyone" administrative access on the server in an attempt to fix it.
Thanks for any help
Hello Joe,
I think you'll need to edit the rsreportserver.config file in the directory: X:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.x\Reporting Services\ReportServer. Search for <WebServiceAccount>NT Authority\NetworkService</WebServiceAccount> and you can change it here. I believe this will have to match the security you have setup for the application pool.
Hope this helps.

Can't back up Encryption Key
I am trying to backup Encryption Key for my reporting service. Configuration tool, prompts for a encryption key file location and a strong password. When I provide the same and click OK, I get the following error:

It looks like your system has a password complexity filter installed. If you search on the error message, you will see a number of articles explaining how you can build and install one; I would check to see if that's the case first.
In the absence of a password filter, the RS WMI provider will use the local Windows password policy rules on Windows 2003

Can't access SQL Server Reporting Services URL anymore
We've had a Reporting Services installation for nearly 6 months now with no
problems. Reporting Services is installed on a Windows 2003 machine which is
connecting to SQL Server 2000 databases.
This morning, it was reporting that the URL to access the report server
(http://server/reports) is returning the following error message:
The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A
connection to the database is required for all requests and processing.
(rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) Get Online Help Login failed for user
'(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
Not sure where to go from here. Nothing has changed as far as we can tell.
Thanks,
JasonThere's also an error in the event log of the Reporting Services machine that
states:
Report Server cannot connect to the report server database.
How do I re-establish this connection? The database still resides on the
same server, same name as before. I am not sure how this happened.

Can't access reports by server name
and I can get to the reports by typing in http://localhost/reports but when
I try http://<servername>/reports I get page not found - this also applies
to any files in the default website. I think it is something straight
forward in IIS but I don't what it is - I am a programmer and a bit clueless
with IIS. Regards, Chris. Are you sure your <servername> is where the reports are located? The
<localhost> is an alias for 127.0.0.1 or the local loopback address. It
sounds like I would check to see also if the server has more than one address
on it. The /reports URL may not be listening on the address for <servername>.

Can't access Reporting with Management Studio
I can't have access with my management studio to Reporting services
(2005)installed on my web server. (Cannot connect to...)Do my developpers
needs special rights?
Regards, Joel :)What do you mean access? You should be able to design reports without any
access to RS. It is only when deploying that you need special rights. Either
they need to be part of the local administrators group on the server where
RS is running OR they need to be put into the appropriate role (read up on
roles for Reporting Services).

Services service is started? It could also be a rights issue. Do you have
sysadmin rights on your MSSQL server?

way that developers should have sysadmin rights on SQL server. RS does
everything based on its roles.
The local administrators role on the server (server not SQL Server)
automatically puts all users in that role with the rights to do anything
(subscriptions, deploy reports etc) to Reporting Services. However,
individual users or groups can be added to roles.
In Report Manager, be at Home. Click on the Properties tab, Click New Role
Assignments. Try Content Manager or Publisher. One of those roles will work.
All other folders inherit from home.

Management studio for anything with RS. I pulled it up just to see what it
offers and it does very little. It shows you some things but Report Manager
can easily do everything and more than what you can do with Management
Studio.
The other poster mentioned sysadmin rights on SQL Server. I don't think this
is necessary because when I look at what information is provided and changes
allowed, it is all straight Reporting Services. If you want developers to be
doing this (adding roles for instance) then have them either be in the local
administrators account on the server that is hosting Reporting Services or
add their account to the System Administrator role.
I suggest first making sure the developers can do what they need to do with
Report Manager.

some good uses.
Mainly, you can organise reports much easier than in Report Manager, you can
also create the rdl from the report.
Having said that, I live with out it because I nearly always hit connection
problems on different sites and I'm not sure of the correct way to set it up.
Anyone got an idiots guide to setting the security up so that this facility
can be done. I have full administrator rights.
Thanks

Can't access Report Manager on another computer
Windows XP Pro boxes that are part of the same Windows workgroup. I
need to deploy reports from one box to the other, but I can't see the
Report Manager on the opposing machine, even though I can see it
locally on the respective machine.
I know we're talking beta here, but I need to give a coworker a way to
have access to all our reports on his laptop. Since Reporting
Services for SQL 2000 requires a server, the only way he and I can
have the reports locally on Win XP Pro is via Reporting Services 2005.
Any idea how I can get access to his Report Manager? When I go to
Report Manager on my machine, I go to
"http://MyComputerName/Reports$2005", which works fine. When I'm on
his machine and go to Report Manager, I go to
"http://HisComputerName/Reports$2005" and that works fine. When I try
the same path from my computer, I get a "page not found" error.
I am a local administrator on his machine and have full directory
access (e.g. //ComputerName/C$). I checked the IIS permissions for
his Reports$2005 virtual directory and the Directory Security
authentication method is set to Integrated Windows authentication. I
tried Anonymous access, but that didn't help. Any ideas?I figured it out. Service Pack 2 for Win XP Pro was installed on the
remote machine, so the firewall was preventing me from getting to the
Report Server. I simply disabled the firewall temporarily so I could
deploy my reports. I didn't know how to configure the firewall to
allow me to access the computer, so I found that disabling the
firewall was the best method.
Anyway, that solved my problem.

cant access invisible dimension. (still no solution)
pls give me the solution if anyone know about this.

You cannot use Hidden Dimensions in SSRS.
But U can create Hidden Calculated Members in Cube, which U R creating in SSRS MDX.
Then use that Calculated Members in Report MDX Query, It will work fine.

Reporting Services will work overt the web. Here's what I have done to
enable this to work: -
1. Installed Reporting Services on a Server inside the DMZ.
2. Set up a rule on the external DMZ firewall (ISA Server) to pass
through all requests for www.mydomain.com to the server with Reporting
Services installed on it (making sure that it's also passing through
all HTTP Headers).
3. Mapped the Site on the Reporting Services server to listen to
www.mydomain.com requests.
I then set up Forms Authentication using this sample: -
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnsql2k/html/ufairs.asp
Does this help?

http://www.myservicescentral.comThank you for your response, Phil.
Points 1 and 2 are OK.
I don't know exactly how to modify configuration files to make Report Server
listen to new URL requests.
( I've tried a lot of combinations without success )
I've also configured Reporting services to work with SSL. May this causes
some additional problems ?

Cannot view http://webserver/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx page from my system
Hi,
I am trying to view http://webserver/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx page that resides on my collegues system as he has got SQL Reporting Services installed on it, but what all i can see is the title 'SQL Server Reporting Services' and 'Home' written on it. I am not able to view tabs like 'Contents', 'properties' which my collegue can when he browses for the page from his system.
Is there any problem with the rights. Please suggest how can I view these options like 'Contents' etc.
Ashu
Report server out of the box only gives local admins any rights. All other rights must be granted by a local admin.
Have a local admin click on the properties tab on the home page and then on the security tab. From there they can add new users and give them the desired permissions.
You can find more information on the predefined roles here:

Cannot uninstall reporting services
I am trying to install reporting services client tools onto my desktop PC.
It appears that reporting services enterprise edition have been installed on
here before but there is nothing listed in add/remove programs for RS.
An excerpt of the install log is below, I am not sure what is setting the
paths for the reporting services databases to be on "d:\program files" as
this is not on my PC. I have searched through the registry with no joy.
Can anyone tell me how I can completely remove RS and start again? Oh yes
and I have checked for the COM objects prescence on my PC too and there are
not there.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Nick

MSSQL folders.
For RS, you may want to check and confirm that everything is gone out
of IIS as well.

Cannot start the Reporting Service
I am currently working on a windows 2003 server with SQL2000 (developers edition). My Sqlserver and Report Server are on two different machines.
This was working yesterday but frustratingly not this morning.
Everytime I try to start the Reporting Server service, it gives me the following message:
"The Report Server service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.
Is there a way around this? - any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm facing a very similar problem. I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled SQL server 2005 Developer Edition twice now. In each case Report Server can't be started. I've looked in the logs and the pertinent errors seem to be the following:
ReportingServicesService!library!4!6/16/2006-15:28:33:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.UnknownUserNameException: The user or group name 'E1705\ASPNET' is not recognized., ;
Info: Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.UnknownUserNameException: The user or group name 'E1705\ASPNET' is not recognized.
ReportingServicesService!servicecontroller!4!6/16/2006-15:28:33:: e ERROR: Exception caught starting RPC server: Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.UnknownUserNameException: The user or group name 'E1705\ASPNET' is not recognized.
In the other log file is the following error:
ReportingServicesService!library!8!6/16/2006-15:28:36:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InvalidReportServerDatabaseException: The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not valid, or it cannot be read. The found version is 'Unknown'. The expected version is 'C.0.8.40'. To continue, update the version of the report server database and verify access rights., ;
Info:
Looking at the time stamp, I believe the later is just a result of the UnknownUserNameException:
SQL Server works fine, I can work with the database in the Management Studio and access them through ASP.NET without a problem (or at least I could before I uninstalled a couple of times!!)
.Net framework 2.0 is installed. I have a Gig of RAM, plenty of hard disk and XP Prof Ed SP 2.
I'm at a total loss on how to get it to work on this machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

|||The problem seems to be that the default ASP.NET user is not present. Are you able to find ASPNET user on your local machine E1705? Re-registering asp.net might help.
aspnet_regiis.exe -i -enable
|||ASPNET user did appear as a user and I tried different permissions to no avail. What finally worked was to uninstall Report Services (actually I uninstalled ALL of SQL server) and then reinstalled the .NET framework. After that I reinstalled SQL Server and Report Services. Everything seemed to work after that. I'm not sure what was wrong, but I'm off and running now!
Thanks for the help

aspnet_regiis.exe -i -enable
This was the 'trick' I was looking for. Now I'm able to start the Reporting Service. Many thanks!!
