can't backup - urgent

Hi,
When I do the backup and click on the add button, an error come
out:
Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLSTATE: 42000)
Error 0: Cannot load the DLL xpstar.dll , or one of the DLLs it references.
Reason:998 (invalid access to memory location)
Please help. I cannot do the backup now. Thanks.

Have you tried running the backup from Query Analyzer instead of Enterprise
Manager, using the BACKUP DATABASE syntax? I don't know what that error
means, but don't let the UI's failure to respond stop you...

Should be MDAC issue. But as an immediate solution execute the backup
database command from query analyzer for backup.
Backup database <dbname> to disk='c:\backup\dbname.bak' with init,stats=10
After the backup, First update the SQL server by SP3a (latest service pack)
and try backup from Enterprise manager.
If you still have issues try updating latest MDAC

This SQL server has already been applied SP3a long time ago.
Last week we got no problem to do the daily backup. But it suddenly happened
this morning. Any clue. I will try the query analyzer now. Thanks.

for the SQL Server. This is why Hari suggested to *reinstall* sp 3, so it might sort things out for
you.

So some other program with an improper install program or version DLL checking might mess thing up
for the SQL Server. This is why Hari suggested to *reinstall* sp 3, so it might sort things out for
you.

Can't access default database on start up

Help!
The default database failed on the restore, and was marked
as in load. After trying to get the database out of that
state, the server was stoped and restarted. On the
restart, we now get the message that the default database
can not be accessed, so we can't connect. For some
unknown reason the default database for the admin group
was not Master, but the database that is marked in Load.
How can I know connect to the server?

If you connect using osql, you can use the /d switch to specify another
database as the default. For more information, please consult your SQL
Server Books Online on the topic "default database."

SQL Server support|||Thanks for your help. Even after changing the default db, for the Admin group, I was not able to get connect through EM. So I added my individual userid with a default db of master, and that worked. Now I get to 'fix' the bad database.

Cannot view browser or load metadata in KPI tab

Why is it that after generating the cube with all the connections to the database setup ( in data source etc) i cannot browse the cube and has the following error message:Either the user, xxxx, does not have access to the xxxx database, or the database does not exist. (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services)

I have created an sql server auth. account in the database and use it in AS. Thanks.
