Can't Access Cube Templates

Hello,

I appreciate this is probably a noddy question but I can't find the answer in any of the normal resources.

I'm working through Brian Larsons Business Intelligence with SQL Server 2005.

Chapter 6 requires me to set up a Cube from a Template.

I've chosen the Cube Wizard from the Project Explorer and then clicked next on the welcome page.

Problem is when I select the second radio button (the option that indicates that the source is not a data mart) the chose template checkbox that activates the template drop-down is disabled.

This obviously means I can't chose the template I need. I've continued with the book anyway but now I need to use the Cube that I've failed to build :(

I think this may be something to do with the default template folder as the path indicated int he book did not exist so I have to build it. Does anyone know the default path for OLAP Cube Templates?

I am using the Trial Version of SQL Server 2005 and assocaite Visual Studio components.

I see templates installed on my machine into C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Templates\olap\1033.

But I think for specific question regarding particular book you should direct your questions to the author.

I guess.... I have figured this out..My sql server installtion is in e: where as my windows dir is d: so MSSQL installed common components in d: , when I created the nested dir structure for cube templates in d: Cube wizard did enable the cube template drop down.

I am never able to understand why MS provides an option of specifying directory when windows drive is indeed a requirement anyway.

I discovered that irrespective of where SQL Server 2005 is installed, there MUST be a templates folder on the drive where Windows is installed. In my case SQL Server 2005 was installed on E: and the Analysis Services templates folder the installation created was at E:\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Templates\olap\1033\. For some reason the Cube Wizard in BIDS cannot see this folder and so no templates are visible in the wizard. If you create a folder with a path of C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools and then copy the Templates folder (and all its contents) from (in my case) E:\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\ to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools you will be able to see the templates in the Cube Wizard.

Cannot view browser or load metadata in KPI tab

Why is it that after generating the cube with all the connections to the database setup ( in data source etc) i cannot browse the cube and has the following error message:Either the user, xxxx, does not have access to the xxxx database, or the database does not exist. (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services)

I have created an sql server auth. account in the database and use it in AS. Thanks.

Cannot see the cube using Crystal Analysis 9

Hi,

I'm currently using SQL 2000 Analysis Manager to create a cube, and Crystal Analysis 9 to try to view the cube.

When I grant the role of the cube to "Everyone", there is no problem, CA is able to view the cube.

However, when the role is granted to a specific "domain account", the cube is NOT showing up in CA...

My settings are: SQL 2000 on one PC, and CA on another PC. Both are under the same domain, and both are logged in using the same domain account. Also, this domain account is already granted the "Administrator" rights in SQL 2000 PC.

Any idea why this is happening?

Anyone ran into this problem too?

Try to narrow problem a little bit.

Try and use another application to browse your AS2000 cubes. You can try Excel PivotTables for that. See if you can connect and see the cubes.

If Excel works for you, the problem is then with CA.

bad news...

When I use EXCEL pivot table, it is able to connect to the cube with or without a proper domain account / password...

so I cannot proof that it is CA problem...

Or it may be the Analysis Manager's problem?

Anymore ideas?

If Excel is able to connect, the problem is likely in the CA.

Cannot resolve index for fact table

Hi,

When I am trying to deploy or save the project with cube I am getting this error.

Property accessor 'StorageLocation' on object '339f70f7-5d30-4c38-97c8-30b675640b24' threw the following exception:'Cannot resolve the 'Fact Table 2' index because the setting does not support the '2' nesting level.
Make sure that the product is installed properly.' (Microsoft Visual Studio)

Also I have this error in "StorageLocation" property for partition.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your help.

One idea is double check the value for the StorageLocation property. What value did you have for it.
Make sure it points to the valid folder on server's file system.
