can't "allow peer to peer" - SQL Server 2005

I'm trying to set up the first distribution server for a peer to peer transactional replication (updateable subscription) between two SQL Server 2005 instances on one machine (for testing). Can this be done without "virtual servers", and if so how do I enable the "Allow peer-to-peer subscriptions" option in the Subscription Options folder of the Publication Properties dialog box?

I've got:

Independent Distribution Agent True (not selectable)

Allow anonymous subscriptions False

Attachable subscription database False

Allow pull subscriptions False

Allow initialization from backup files True

Allow non-SQL Server Subscribers False

Allow data transformations False (not selectable)

Replicate schema changes True

Allow peer-to-peer subscriptions False (not selectable)

Allow immediate updating subscriptions True (not selectable)

Allow queued updating subscriptions True (not selectable)

Report conflicts centrally True

Conflict resolution policy Keep the Publisher

I've tried various combinations of options, but think these are correct. Also, the snapshot database is in a local (not network) directory; I got a warning on this, although in this special case the snapshot should be available to both instances.

Thanks...

I applied SQL Server 2005 SP1 and the problem went away!

Cannot subscribe via email

When I go to the subscription page, in the delivered by drop down box, i only get "File Share" as an option. Is there a setting on the report server configuration file that is making the "Email Delivery" option not viewable?

Thanks.

silly question, but did you specify an email server (smtp)?

Also, what version are you using (2000, 2005)?

|||

That is correct, RS will only display the extensions which are configured and ready to use. In order to use the email extension, you need to provide a SMTP server name at least - via the RS configuration tool in RS 2005 or manually editing RsReportServer.config in RS 2000.

Thanks

Cannot subscribe report

Has anybody experienced this strange problem? I can create a e-mail
subscription in Management Studio. However, when I am in web based
subscription, type in the entries and click "OK", the next screen asks me to
"specify options for report delivery" again. No matter what I choose ("Report
Server E-mail" or "Report Server File Share"), it prompt back to the same
screen.
Any tip or help is very much appreciated.Hello Jason,
I would like to know have you applied SP1 on your reporting services?
Also, if you created a subscription in the Management Studio and then try
to modify the subscription in the web site, do you still get this issue?
And if you tested on other client, does this issue still occur?

thing happens. Thank you for any troubleshooting clues.

I set it up in Management Studio. My problem is I can not use Management

right, those reports subscription has to be done through report server web
interface. That is why I am having the problem. Please help.

Cannot set the ProfileName on a merge agent

Hi,

I am trying to create a new merge subscription using RMO on Sql 2005, but I want the new agent to use a non-default profile.

I can set the ProfileName on the agent but it seems to have no affect. I was wondering, do I have the wrong Profile name?

This is the code I'm using

subscription = new MergeSubscription();

subscription.ConnectionContext = conn;

subscription.SubscriberName = server;

subscription.SubscriberSecurity.SqlStandardLogin = sqlUserName;

subscription.SubscriberSecurity.SqlStandardPassword = sqlPassword;

subscription.SubscriberSecurity.WindowsAuthentication = useWindowsAuth;

subscription.PublicationName = publication.Name;

subscription.DatabaseName = publication.DatabaseName;

subscription.SubscriptionDBName = database;

subscription.SyncType = SubscriptionSyncType.Automatic;

subscription.SubscriberType = MergeSubscriberType.Global;

subscription.Priority = 75;

subscription.UseInteractiveResolver = false;

if(hostNameOverride != null && hostNameOverride.Length > 0)

subscription.HostName = hostNameOverride;

subscription.SynchronizationAgentProcessSecurity.Login = agentUserName;

subscription.SynchronizationAgentProcessSecurity.Password = agentPassword;

// Create the push subscription.

subscription.Create();

if (subscription.SynchronizationAgent != null)

subscription.SynchronizationAgent.ProfileName = "High Volume Server-to-Server Profile";

Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong?

Regards

Graham

Agent has a corresponding profile, which has existed and you can not change its name. As for your case, you may try to create a new non-default profile and give it with the name you set. Also set the new profile as your merge agent profile.

Hope it will help.

THanks

Thanks Yungjing,

are you saying that is it not possible to create a subscription and the subscription use one of the pre-defined agent profiles?

I can change the profile of an existing agent using the UI of the replication monitor, so I would have thought it should be possible using RMO!!

Graham

No, this is not what I mean.

But I understand your issue this time. Originally, I thought you tried to change profile name through calling subscription.SynchronizationAgent.ProfileName = "High Volume Server-to-Server Profile".

To change agent with another pre-defined agent profile, you should use

RMO class: AgentProfile

Method: public void AssignToAgent(string distributionDBName, int agentID)

It will call SP sp_update_agent_profile as UI does.

Hope it will help this time. :-)

Thats just the answer I was looking for, thanks Yunjing.

However, I have one small problem. Where do I find the agentID as an integer from?

My code has just created a new subscription. The only reference to an agent Job ID I can find is one the MergeSubscription class, but this is a string, and it won't convert to an integer.

Thank you once again.

Here are some sample code, you may refer to get help for your conversion case.

............

DataTable dt = ds.Tables[0];
if (dt != null)
{
foreach (DataRow dr in dt.Rows)
{
// Column 0 is always the Dist DB
string distDB = (string)dr[0];
int agentID = (int)dr[nColAgentID];
agentProfile.AssignToAgent(distDB, agentID);
}

............................

Thanks

Yunjing
